Why You Shouldn't Neglect Salt In Your Diet- Especially If You Work in High Temperatures Or Do Heavy Manual Work

I don't think people should completely abstain from salt because it is correlated with high blood pressure, but rather aim to take it in moderation, especially if you work in areas of high temperature or are into heavy manual work because salt (sodium chloride ) is essential to life.

Salt is essential to life because it contains electrolytes which play a vital role in how our bodies function generally. It controls the fluid balance in our bodies so helps in water retention, it is also important for energy generation, muscle contraction and it certainly does contain nutrients that are vital to your stomach.

Our bodies rely on the electrolytes present in salt to function at optimal capacity, because electrolytes are also what the cells in our vital organs rely on to send messages to the brain and among themselves.

Electrolytes are often lost  through perspiration and so the body constantly needs replacement to maintain balance.

If you lose an unusual amount of perspiration due to high temperature or heavy manual work, it might be wise to ensure you are taking the recommended maximum amount of salt, this is assuming you have not been placed on a strict no salt diet by your doctor, in order to prevent fatigue and cramp.

Adults can have up to 6 grams (which is equivalent to a teaspoon) of salt a day, but no more as you could jeopardize your health by having too much salt in your system.

Remember moderation is the key.
