Fertility experts are urging career women hoping to have biological children in the future to freeze their eggs before they reach 35 as a way of keeping that hope alive because the chances of women conceiving significantly reduces after they turn 38. The Ovary and eggs age unlike the womb which can carry pregnancies well into the 50s.
A 12- year study carried out by some researchers revealed that from age 38 women had only a 24% chance of having a baby through IVF and that chance reduces to just 1.3% for those aged over 44.
Lead researcher Dr Martha Devesa wants women to be encouraged to have children earlier but if circumstances do not permit then they should be encouraged to take the option of freezing their eggs before they reach 35.
Professor Adam Balen, chairman of the British Fertility Society said, all we hear is the good stories about celebrities who are having children at old age, but nobody hears about the ones who tried and had unsuccessful fertility treatments, and he fears these good stories are misleading a lot of people.
