Gilles Crepin a 47-year old bartender has been found guilty of killing his customer, 57-year old Renaud Prudhomme by serving him 56 shots of spirit in a drinking competition at his bar in Clermont-Ferrand, in central France.
Crepin was convicted of manslaughter after Prudhomme who has both respiratory and alcohol problems died of a heart attack.
The court found the barman guilty because he was the one who encouraged his customer to keep on drinking. He urged Mr Prudhomme to beat the record of 55 at the Starter Bar telling him he only had 12 to go near the end of the challenge.
Crepin was banned from bartending for a year and given a four months suspended sentence, in his defence his lawyer said bartenders can't ask for medical certificates from every customer who buys alcohol.
