British school considering scrapping homework due to epidemic of depression and anxiety amongst its students
Cheltenham Ladies' College is one of Britain's most prestigious independent schools.
According to the principal of the 162-year old boarding and day school, there is a possibility homework could be scrapped and "flip learning" introduced in a bid to improve the mental health of its students as homework was found to be a cause of anxiety and depression amongst teenagers.
While speaking she said mentioned the worsening state of adolescent mental health and how it was the responsibilities of educators to safeguard the wellbeing of young people.
Over the next five years the school will review its practice of handing out homework to its students and teacher will be trained to spot mental health cases among their students, also in a continuing bid to help students, the students will attend a weekly meditation class and be given twice as long to walk between lessons.
