The Serenity Prayer as Said by Reinhold Niebuhr ( 1892 - 1971)
-
- God, give me grace to accept with serenity
- the things that cannot be changed,
- Courage to change the things
- which should be changed,
- and the Wisdom to distinguish
- the one from the other.
-
- Living one day at a time,
- Enjoying one moment at a time,
- Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
- Taking, as Jesus did,
- This sinful world as it is,
- Not as I would have it,
- Trusting that You will make all things right,
- If I surrender to Your will,
- So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
- And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
-
- Amen.
I often wonder wouldn't life be a lot less stressful if only we took this prayer to heart and worried less. Some things are simply beyond our control and worrying about them will do nothing to help but hurt us as worrying too much can lead to anxiety which in turn can cause insomnia and temporary rise to your blood pressure.
An unknown author wrote
''Worry is a total waste of time
it doesn't change anything
all it does is steal your joy and
keep you busy doing nothing''
In my opinion time you could have spent playing with your kids, cleaning your house, doing kind things for your spouse, improving yourself or just being a better neighbour is spent on worrying.
This is not to say become complacent, but to do your best and after you know you have done all you can possibly do. Deliberately Relax however way you know how to and wait for the sun to come out tomorrow after all who knows what new ideas, inspirations, opportunities and friends the sun will bring along with it tomorrow. Easier said than done I know that is why its going to be a deliberate effort, I believe there is hope so long there is life and personally for me I believe one of the best ways to relax is to go into thanksgiving mode. Be grateful you are alive, be grateful you are not destitute, be grateful you have food on your table, be grateful you are not the one running for cover because of war, trust me there must be at least one thing You can say thank you Jesus for.
